Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I,Ref-Canandaigua) and the Assembly Minority Conference today welcomed four new Members during a public Swearing-In ceremony in the Legislative Office Building in Albany. The new legislators took their oaths of office among family, friends, and dignitaries. The new Members, who bring a diverse set of skills, knowledge and experience to the Assembly Chamber, are:

  • Jake Ashby, 107th Assembly District
  • John Mikulin, 17th Assembly District
  • Doug Smith, 5th Assembly District
  • Chris Tague, 102nd Assembly District
"I am honored to welcome our newest Members to the Assembly Minority Conference," said Leader Kolb. "I have no doubt each of these individuals will bring an incredible work ethic on behalf of the people who elected them. Their passion, integrity, hard work and commitment to their constituents will help to make New York a better place to live, work and raise a family."

The new Members, eager to do the people's work, each expressed deep gratitude for those who supported them in their electoral efforts.

"I am honored to represent the people of New York and specifically the 107th District," said Assemblyman Ashby (R,C,I,Ref-Castelton). "As a veteran, I know first-hand the issues affecting our service members upon returning home, and I will work with my colleagues to address the ways we can provide the best resources for these men and women. The people of New York need legislators they can trust, and I intend to work to restore that trust in our state government."

"New York has a serious outmigration problem, which is wreaking havoc on our tax base, and it is responsible for the loss of tremendous human resources," said Assemblyman Mikulin (R,C,I,Ref-Bethpage). "As an assemblyman, I will fight to lower taxes and craft policies that make New York attractive to businesses, residents and those who drive the economy. We must also cut wasteful spending, reform the state's corrupt and mismanaged economic development programs and fix our broken education system."

"I am going to work hard to help craft policies that protect my constituents and make New York a better, stronger place," said Assemblyman Smith (R,C,I,Ref-Holbrook). "I will fight for victims of domestic violence and work to solve New York's out-of-control opioid epidemic. New York's economy, small businesses and taxpayers have suffered enough. As a legislator, I will champion laws that will promote prosperity and growth and breathe new life into New York's stagnant economy."

"I look forward to working for the people of the 102nd District and fighting for issues facing our community and across New York State," said Assemblyman Tague (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie). "I have worked hard my entire life and will continue to work hard every day for the people of this great state. We need to fix our failing infrastructure, combat the opioid crisis and create greater access to broadband internet statewide. I am also working against corruption and toward real ethics reform, while lowering staggering property taxes. I pledge to work with my constituents and fellow legislators to make New York state the best it can be."
