There is No Place Like the Finger Lakes During the Fall Season

Column from Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I,Ref-Canandaigua)

Everyone who lives in upstate New York knows how fortunate we are to inhabit a region with such natural beauty. Particularly in the fall, the changing leaves provide a stunning backdrop that rivals any in the country. Along with endless leaf peeping opportunities, we are also blessed with countless activities the whole family can enjoy before the dreaded winter forces us indoors.

According to this season’s foliage report, the Finger Lakes region will be at near-peak foliage this weekend! This provides the perfect opportunity to get together with family and friends and soak in the vibrant colors. For those interested about the types of trees in the area, be sure to keep a copy of this New York Leaf Identifier with you as you travel. Leaf peeping is a great way to help children practice their research and observation skills.

Bristol Mountain is offering daily Fall Sky Rides through October 28, providing a particularly exciting view. On a clear day, you can even spot Canandaigua Lake from the summit. Further, Finger Lakes wine country offers world-class, award-winning beverages that continue to thrive under the hard work and ingenuity of the area’s viticulture experts and farmers.

VISITING THE FINGER LAKES HELPS OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

By indulging in all the great activities our region has to offer, visitors and residents are supporting our local economy and businesses. Visiting the farms and retailers that offer these unique experiences and sell local fare is both an endorsement of their efforts and, ultimately, strengthens our communities and our state. Small businesses are the backbone of New York; supporting your neighbors by experiencing the region’s offerings is a true win-win.

Whether you are apple picking, pumpkin patching or leaf peeping, I hope each of you have a chance to explore our magnificent region this fall. There is an incredible amount to see and do in the Finger Lakes, and I look forward to enjoying the season with those living here and visiting from afar.
