Speaker Heastie Continues Annual Statewide Tour in Plattsburgh with Assemblymember Jones, Announcing $4.5 million in Funding to Complete the New Plattsburgh YMCA
Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today with Assemblymember Billy Jones to visit the future site of the Plattsburgh YMCA and announce $4.5 million to complete the project.
“The YMCA provides critical access to recreational, community programming and childcare for families all across our state,” said Speaker Heastie. “Expanding the opportunities they have to continue providing an incredible service to this community is a must and I’m honored to be able to visit the future site of this exciting project.”
“Many of our hardworking families in the North Country continue to struggle to find affordable and reliable childcare, but the YMCA remains a critical resource for accessible after-school care and summer camps,” said Assemblymember Jones. “By investing in their growth, we can ensure that the YMCA has all the tools they need to continue providing for our families.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Jones met with Plattsburgh YMCA CEO Justin Ihne to visit the site of the future Plattsburgh YMCA. When completed, the new Plattsburgh YMCA facility is expected to have an updated aquatic center and a new space for people of all ages, whether they be children, teens or seniors, allowing them to expand services for North Country families.
The $4.5 million announced today will give the YMCA the funding necessary to complete the pool. In 2022, the Assembly announced $1.3 million to support the expansion of Plattsburgh YMCA and its efforts to provide accessible childcare opportunities to families across the North Country.
