Speaker Heastie Statement on the Passing of New York State Regent Judith Johnson

I am saddened to learn of the passing of New York State Regent Judith Johnson. Regent Johnson dedicated her career to improving public education in New York State and across the country, from her start as a teacher in New York City, through her leadership roles across six school districts and in the U.S. Department of Education. Because of that proven record, Regent Johnson was elected to the New York State Board of Regents in 2015 to serve the Ninth Judicial District, which includes Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester Counties. Her voice and her dedication to providing a quality public education to all students will be missed. On behalf of the New York State Assembly, I offer our deepest condolences to Regent Johnson’s family and friends.
