Agency Mission
The Division of Human Rights (DHR) is the State agency designated with the responsibility of enforcing the New York State Human Rights Law, which prohibits discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and other areas on account of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, and marital status. The Division accomplishes this mission through: the investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints; the promotion of human rights in New York through education, conciliation, and other such measures; the development and articulation of human rights policy and legislation for the Governor; and, the assumption of a leadership role in the area of human rights and civil rights through outreach to community groups.

The Executive recommends an All Funds appropriation of $12,758,000 which represents an increase of $310,000.
