Agency Mission

The Department of Law is responsible for protecting the legal rights of the State and its citizens. The Attorney General defends state agencies, renders formal legal opinions to state departments and agencies and provides informal opinions to local governments. Additionally, the Attorney General safeguards investors and consumers from fraud and illegal practices.

Year-to-Year Change

The Executive proposed an overall increase to the Department of Law of $13,894,500 or 10.1 percent. The General Fund appropriations request is increased by $17,029,100 or 20.2 percent, while the Special Revenue-Other appropriations request is decreased by $4,221,700 or 18.7 percent.

Legislative Changes

The Assembly makes no changes to the Executive's proposal.
