Agency Mission

The Interest on Lawyers Account (IOLA) was established in 1983 to finance civil legal services for those who cannot afford such services, along with programs which assist with the legal needs of the elderly and disabled individuals. Funding for these civil legal services is derived from interest earned on trust accounts, which attorneys hold on deposit in banks for their clients. The distribution of funds is performed by the IOLA Board.

Year-to-Year Change

On an All Funds basis, the State Operations appropriations request is increased by $103,900 or 0.7 percent. Aid to Localities appropriation authority remained the same as State Fiscal Year (SFY) 1998-99.

Legislative Changes

The Assembly makes no changes to the Executive's proposal.
