BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS

The Capital Defender Office was established in conjunction with the
1995 death penalty statute. The Office is responsible for providing
legal, investigative, and expert services to indigent persons who are
likely to be prosecuted for capital murder.
This agency is located within the Public Protection and General
Government appropriation bill.
State Operations
The Executive proposes an All Funds State Operations appropriation of
$13,897,000, representing a decrease of $750,000. The decrease is
comprised of a $783,000 increase in State Operations funds to reflect
salary adjustments and other costs associated with agency operations,
offset by a $1,553,000 decrease resulting from to the elimination of
four vacant positions.
