Caucus Hosts Press Conference for PCB Superfund
(ALBANY, NY March 20, 2024) - Members of the Caucus came together with Senator Pete Harckham, Former EPA Regional Administrator Peter Lopez, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner and environmental justice advocates to demand that the EPA addresses the “forever chemicals" (PCB) contaminating the Hudson River.
"It’s ridiculous that we're begging for our communities, especially Black & Brown communities that have always been at the brunt of environmental racism and other acts against us." said Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Caucus Chair Michaelle Solages.
"We really need agencies like EPA to step up and show teeth in their plans to get these PCBs out of the river." Assemblywoman Sarahana Shresthra said.
"GE became a big corporation by dumping on the communities and its people, and now they have to own up to it." said Senator John C. Liu.
"We’re sick of waiting. We should be able to swim in the Hudson. There are over 1.3 million people affected in the Lower Hudson Valley alone by the toxins that are affecting our family's health." said Assemblyman Tony Simone.
