LEGISLATIVE ACTION

The Legislature concurs with the Executive recommendation.

Article VII

The Legislature accepts the Executive Article VII legislation that would authorize the Division of Parole to grant merit termination of sentence for certain non-violent parolees who have successfully served a portion of their community-based sentence.

The Legislature further approves the Executive Article VII provision that would limit the transcription of Parole Board proceedings to only those cases where an offender who was denied release or revoked from parole. The Legislature directs the Division of Parole to maintain non-transcribed records for a period of twenty-five years, or until the maximum expiration date of a parolee’s term of sentence is met.
