BILL NUMBER: A4613C
SPONSOR: Jean-Pierre

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to providing for
an annual adjustment for reimbursements for certain veterans funerals

PURPOSE OF THE BILL:
The New York State Funeral Director Association will have the capacity
to adjust the funds that help families of deceased veterans pay for
funerals.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. The bill amends the General Municipal Law by adding a new
section to subdivision 1-a of section 148 which allows the State of New
York to account for veteran funerals with any annual increase in the
cost.
Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

JUSTIFICATION:
Presently, New York State reimburses veteran organizations at the value
of $2,000. The average cost for a veteran's funeral is $2,800 in high-
cost areas, which leaves families of deceased veterans struggling to pay
for funerals. The bill proposes that the New York State Funeral Director
Association will have the power to calculate the appropriate adjustment
when deceased veterans are reimbursed, to help them pay the difference.
