  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to the admissions program for the state university of New York maritime college   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Amends the maritime college cadet appointments program to allow members of assembly one additional student appointment and increases the maximum number of vacancy positions set aside for applicants.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends the Education Law to authorize each member of assembly to appoint one additional student, for a total of two each, to the cadet appoint- ments program at maritime college and increases the maximum number of vacancy positions reserved for appointees from 284 to 437.   JUSTIFICATION: Increasing the number of appointments per member of assembly by one student will allow a greater number of students to attend maritime college to support enrollment without imposing the financial burden.of student loans on appointees.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2023-2024, A.10153, not considered   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: INCREASED COSTS TO THE STATE TO SUPPORT ADDITIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING MARITIME COLLEGE UNDER THE CADET APPOINTMENTS PROGRAM.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
