NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION submitted in accordance with Assembly Rule III, Sec 1(f)

BILL NUMBER: A5338
SPONSOR: Morinello

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in
relation to providing free use of state parks to family members of
deceased military

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This legislation would allow family members of those, killed in action
to receive free park passes.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Pursuant to section 1643 of the vehicle and traffic law, this
legislation allows the Village of Lewiston in the Town of Lewiston to
speed limit to 25 MPH on Center street should they establish such speed
limit by local law, ordinance, order, rule or regulation.
Section 2 is the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:
The families of those killed in action go through a grieving process
that none of us can imagine. As individuals who are killed in action do
not receive a DD214 the family is unable to apply for a free park pass,
this legislation seems to remedy that problem. This legislation is only
a mere token of what the State of NY owes these families, and their
loved ones who died in service of this State and Country.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Minimal

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the 60th day after it shall become law.
