  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the election law, in relation to prohibiting political candidates from being nominated by more than one party for any public office   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation prohibits any candidate running for public office to be endorsed by more than one party in the State of New York.   SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: This legislation will add to Section 6-122 of the election law to include that a person shall not be designated or nominated for a public office or party position who has already accepted another party nomi- nation for the election of the same public office   JUSTIFICATION: The ability to be endorsed by multiple parties as a result of the Wilson-Pakul'a Act has caused some candidates running for public office to bribe or cajole Party leaders with, contracts, legislation, and even cash: In light of recent corruption and bribery charges to both our legislative, body and legislative bodies across New York, legislation need to be passed to help remedy the situation.   LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2023-2024 A3595 referred to election law 2022 01/05/22 A1833 referred to election law 2019-2020 A3419 referred to election law 2017-2018 A786 referred to election law 04/25/13 referred to election law 01/08/14 referred to election law 01/20/15 referred to election law   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT: None   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
