  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 606 of the laws of 2006 amending the volunteer firefighters' benefit law relating to creating a presumption relating to certain lung disabilities incurred by volunteer firefighters, in relation to the effectiveness of such chapter   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation would extend, until June 30, 2020, section 11-c of volunteer firefighters' benefit law, which governs benefits for the death or disability of volunteer firefighters due to lung disease.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill extends the presumption related to disability benefits for death or disability related to lung disease in volunteer firefighters for an additional five years, until June 30, 2030. Section 2 provides the effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: Volunteer firefighters too often suffer injuries or death relating to lung disease in the line of duty. As a result, the legislature estab- lished specific procedures to expedite the handling of such claims. This legislation extends the provisions relating to disability due to lung disease until June 30, 2030.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: Chapter 58 of the laws of 2020 (PPGG Part XXX subpart B item BB) Chapter 25 of the laws of 2015 Chapter 282 of the laws of 2010 Chapter 120 of the Laws of 2008 Chapter 606 of the Laws of 2006   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: Note.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
