TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Fire Chief Robert Bornt
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To dedicate a bridge on the state highway system in the Town of Peters-
burg, Rensselaer County, to Fire Chief Robert Bornt.
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section one dedicates a bridge located on State Route 2 crossing over
State Route 22 in the Town of Petersburg, Rensselaer County, to Fire
Chief Robert Bornt.
Section two directs the Commissioner of Transportation to provide for
the installation and maintenance of adequate signing, which shall state
"Bridge Dedicated to Fire Chief Robert Bornt".
Section three provides the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Highway Maintenance Supervisor 1 Robert Bornt sustained catastrophic
injuries related to a work zone intrusion and tragically passed away on
Friday, May 30, 2025.
This dedication will honor his legacy with a daily reminder to all who
travel over the bridge of the profound impact one individual can have
through selfless service. In addition to over 20 years of public service
with NYSDOT, Mr. Bornt was the current Hoosick Falls Fire Chief at the
time of his passing.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
