Assembly Resolution No. 897

        RECOGNIZING   January  28,  2026,  as  Anti-Hunger
        Advocacy Day in the State of New York
 
  WHEREAS, All New Yorkers deserve the dignity of not going hungry  in
the  richest  state of the country, in the richest country in the world;
and
 
  WHEREAS, The unalienable right to life, liberty and the  pursuit  of
happiness should be guaranteed to all who live in the Empire State; and
 
  WHEREAS, Starving from hunger due to a lack of economic, personal or
community  resources,  would  indisputably  deny any New Yorker of these
unalienable rights; and
 
  WHEREAS, According to Feeding America, more than 34  million  people
in  the  United  States,  including  over  9  million  children, live in
food-insecure households, with New  York  experiencing  disproportionate
rates of hunger in underserved and marginalized communities; and
 
  WHEREAS,   Every   year,  food  security  advocates,  hunger  relief
organizations, educators, volunteers  and  leaders  in  the  anti-hunger
movement travel to the Capital to shine a light on hunger being faced in
their communities; and
 
  WHEREAS, Shining a light on the hunger crisis New Yorkers are facing
is  imperative to ensuring that this Legislative Body is able to produce
and pass informed and effective legislation that addresses this  crisis;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize January 28, 2026, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day in the State  of
New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause further to honor the work
of  hunger  relief  organizations,  food  security advocates, educators,
volunteers and leaders in the anti-hunger movement  who  travel  to  the
Capital each year to raise awareness of the systemic issues contribution
to hunger.
