  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Deputy Chief Brian Buell Memorial Bridge"   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To rename a portion of the state highway system constituting state route 372 in the village of Greenwich, county of Washington, between Barber Avenue and Mill Street, to be designated and known as the "Deputy Chief Brian Buell Memorial Bridge".   SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 outlines the portion of highway to be renamed. Section 2 outlines that the renaming is ceremonial, and that the commissioner of transportation shall install and maintain the signage for the desig- nation. Section 3 is the effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: Deputy Fire Chief Brian Buell served the village of Greenwich from 1989 to 2022. His untiring efforts and unselfish dedication to duty were inspirational to all those who served with him. Brian joined the Green- wich Fire Department's Explorer program at age 14. He graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1994. During Brian's 33 years with the Greenwich Fire Department, Brian worked at Curtis Lumber, DeCrescente Distributors, the Washington County Department of Public Works and, most recently, as the water treatment operator for the village of Greenwich's Department of Public Works. Deputy Fire Chief Brian Buell was survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Maureen Buell, his wife Carrie, his children Ryan, Stephen, Rachel and Bailey Buell, Jayden Hughes, and Chase Goldson. He was predeceased by his two infant sons, Dominick and Kain.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: None.   EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately.

        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
          the state highway system as the "Deputy  Chief  Brian  Buell  Memorial
          Bridge"
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-o to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 344-o. Portion of the state highway system to be designated  as  the
     4  "Deputy  Chief Brian Buell Memorial Bridge". The bridge over the Batten-
     5  kill River on state  route  three  hundred  seventy-two  between  Barber
     6  Avenue  and  Mill Street in the village of Greenwich, county of Washing-
     7  ton, shall be designated and known as  the  "Deputy  Chief  Brian  Buell
     8  Memorial Bridge".
     9    §  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
    10  lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
    11  as  designated  pursuant  to  section one of this act. However, to avoid
    12  confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,  the  desig-
    13  nation  called  for  pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
    14  ceremonial nature and the official name of  such  bridge  shall  not  be
    15  changed as a result of this act.
    16    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
