TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to increas-
ing the number of cuisine trails in the state
 
PURPOSE OF BILL:
To increase the number of cuisine trails in the state from 15 to 25 in
order to promote new opportunities.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one: Increases the number of cuisine trails allowed under para-
graph (b) of subdivision 3 of section 284-a of the agriculture and
markets law from fifteen to twenty-five.
Section two: Effective Date
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Cuisine Trails support local businesses and promote tourism in regions
across the state. There currently exists a statutory cap of 15 trails.
As the craft beverage and farm-tourism industry have expanded in the
last several years, there is a need to increase this number so that more
trails can be created. This legislation allows for up to 25 cuisine
trails in New York State.
 
PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
This is new legislation.
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS:
None
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to increas-
ing the number of cuisine trails in the state
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The opening paragraph of paragraph (b) of subdivision 3 of
2 section 284-a of the agriculture and markets law, as amended by chapter
3 314 of the laws of 2016, is amended to read as follows:
4 Designations shall take into consideration geographic proximity and
5 alignment, thematic consistency, geographic or historical consistency,
6 density, economic feasibility, and the cooperation of agricultural
7 producers on the trails to be designated. The department shall designate
8 no more than fifteen farm trails, fifteen apple trails, and [fifteen]
9 twenty-five cuisine trails. Criteria for developing and approving such
10 trails shall include:
11 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
