  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of the state highway system to Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C. Ebling   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation memorializes Stephen C. Ebling, a NYS Thruway mainte- nance supervisor, who was killed while working on the Silver Creek Section of the Buffalo Maihtenance Division, by dedicating the bridge over the NYS Thruway along Eden-Evans Road, in the Town of Evans, in honor of " Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C. Ebling".   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill dedicates a portion of the state highway system in honor of Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C. Ebling". § 2. Requires the NYS Thruway Authority to provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. § 3. Establishes the effective date.   DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND AMENDED VERSION (IF APPLICABLE):   JUSTIFICATION: NYS Thruway maintenance supervisor Stephen "Steve" Ebling, a 15-year veteran with the New York State Thruway Authority-Buffalo Maintenance Division, was killed while performing his duties when he was struck by a car that crossed over the hazard markings on the highway on Monday November 4th, 2024. He was 58 years old. Maintenance supervisor Ebling was a dedicated, hardworking public servant. This legislation rightly recognizes his sacrifice in the line of duty, as well as accentuates the' hazardous work conditions he and others regularly face when working on our roadways.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: None   EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion  of
          the state highway system to Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C.  Ebling
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-r to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 344-r. Portion of the state highway system to be dedicated to  Main-
     4  tenance  Supervisor  Stephen  C. Ebling. The bridge on Eden Evans Center
     5  Road, in the town of Evans, county of Erie, crossing over the  New  York
     6  state  thruway,  shall be dedicated to Maintenance Supervisor Stephen C.
     7  Ebling.
     8    § 2. The chair of the New York state thruway authority  shall  provide
     9  for  the  installation  and maintenance of adequate signing of the state
    10  highway system as  dedicated  pursuant  to  section  one  of  this  act,
    11  provided  that such signing shall state "Bridge Dedicated to Maintenance
    12  Supervisor Stephen C Ebling". However, to avoid confusion and  to  limit
    13  any  possible disruption of commerce, the dedication called for pursuant
    14  to section one of this act shall be one of  ceremonial  nature  and  the
    15  official  name  of  such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this
    16  act.
    17    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
