TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to designating uniformed marine patrol officers as peace officers in the county of Seneca   PURPOSE: To allow the sheriff of Seneca County to appoint marine patrol officers in their jurisdiction   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Authorizes the Seneca County sheriff to appoint marine patrol officers. Section 2. States the effective date   JUSTIFICATION: The County of Seneca has requested the enactment of legislation that would allow the Sheriff to appoint marine patrol officers. Currently, the County has a pressing need for such officers, but existing law does not grant the authority to appoint or hire them. This 1 legislation would resolve that issue, enabling Seneca to access the same resources available to other counties.   LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: 2024: S9897 - Referred to Rules   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
