  TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to funding for the state office for the aging   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To provide funding to the office for the aging out of any moneys in the state treasury in the general fund.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Allocates $400,000,000 or so much thereof as may be neces- sary, to the office for the aging for programs and services of the state. Section 2: Effective date   DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND AMENDED VERSION (IF APPLICABLE): Click here to enter text.   JUSTIFICATION: In rural areas such as Wyoming County, NY, residents were told their rent would not go up any higher than 3% forever. In 2020, and 2021 the increase was 3%. As of January 2024, as their leases come due, the increase would be 8.5%. That is 26.5% over 5 years.         AN ACT in relation to funding for the state office for the aging
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The sum of four hundred million dollars ($400,000,000),  or
     2  so  much  thereof  as  may  be  necessary, is hereby appropriated to the
     3  office for the aging out of any moneys in  the  state  treasury  in  the
     4  general  fund,  and  made  immediately  available  for  the programs and
     5  services of the state office for the aging. Such moneys shall be payable
     6  on the audit and warrant of the comptroller  on  vouchers  certified  or
     7  approved by the director of the state office for the aging in the manner
     8  prescribed by law.
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2024.
