TITLE OF BILL:
An act in relation to funding for the state office for the aging
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To provide funding to the office for the aging out of any moneys in the
state treasury in the general fund.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Allocates $400,000,000 or so much thereof as may be neces-
sary, to the office for the aging for programs and services of the
state.

JUSTIFICATION:
In rural areas such as Wyoming County, NY, residents were told their
rent would not go up any higher than 3% forever. In 2020, and 2021 the
increase was 3%. As of January 2024, as their leases come due, the
increase would be 8.5%. That is 26.5% over 5 years. The office of the
aging is a necessary program that helps these senior citizens offset
some of the cost of living through various programs offered

AN ACT in relation to funding for the state office for the aging
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The sum of four hundred million dollars ($400,000,000), or
2 so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated to the
3 office for the aging out of any moneys in the state treasury in the
4 general fund, and made immediately available for the programs and
5 services of the state office for the aging. Such moneys shall be payable
6 on the audit and warrant of the comptroller on vouchers certified or
7 approved by the director of the state office for the aging in the manner
8 prescribed by law.
9 § 2. This act shall take effect April 1, 2024.
