TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Officer Stephen L. Raymond
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To dedicate a bridge in the town of Lake George after ECO Stephen L.
Raymond.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 - Dedicates the bridge at of exit 23 of Interstate 87 in the
town of Lake George after ECO Stephen L. Raymond.
Section 2 - Directs the commissioner of transportation to install
signage.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Stephen L. Raymond spent more than 30 years as a state environmental
conservation officer. For the majority of his career, he was stationed
at DEC's Warrensburg office. Raymond was deployed to the World Trade
Center following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack and participated in
rescue, recovery and cleanup operations. Mr. Raymond subsequently
developed cancer, which arose due to his service, and ultimately died.
His service to the region, state and the country is deserving of recog-
nition.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Officer Stephen L. Raymond
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 345-e to
2 read as follows:
3 § 345-e. Portion of the state highway system to be dedicated to Offi-
4 cer Stephen L. Raymond. The bridge located on Diamond Point road at exit
5 twenty-three of interstate eighty-seven, designated as bridge number
6 1033550, in the town of Lake George, county of Warren, shall be dedi-
7 cated to Officer Stephen L. Raymond.
8 § 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
9 lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
10 as dedicated pursuant to section one of this act, provided that such
11 signing shall state "Bridge Dedicated to Officer Stephen L Raymond".
12 However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of
13 commerce, the dedication called for pursuant to section one of this act
14 shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge
15 shall not be changed as a result of this act.
16 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
