  TITLE OF BILL: An act to allow Steven Kobie Jackson to be eligible to take the civil service exam for the position of police officer for the town of Wood- stock police department   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Authorizes Steven Kobie Jackson to take the competitive exam for the position of full-time police officer and be placed on the eligible list for such position.   SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1: Authorizes Steven Kobie Jackson to sit for the civil service exam and be placed on the eligibility list for full-time police officer. Section 2: Steven Kobie Jackson is subject to the merit and fitness provisions of the Civil Service Law applicable to full-time police offi- cers. Section 3 states the effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: Under the Civil Service Law, as prescribed under Section 58, no individ- ual may take the civil service examination, nor be eligible for a civil service appointment as a police officer, at the age of 43 or older. Due to this limitation, the Town of Woodstock Police Department has requested legislation to permit one of their part-time officers, Steven Kobie Jackson, to be eligible to take the civil service examination since he is currently older than 43 years old.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: This is a new bill.   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: None.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.

          tee on Governmental Employees
 
        AN  ACT  to  allow Steven Kobie Jackson to be eligible to take the civil
          service exam for the position of police officer for the town of  Wood-
          stock police department
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of  the  civil
     2  service  law or any other provision of law to the contrary, Steven Kobie
     3  Jackson, who has been continuously employed by  the  town  of  Woodstock
     4  police  department, in the county of Ulster, as a part-time police offi-
     5  cer, shall be eligible to take the competitive civil service examination
     6  for the position of police officer and shall, contingent upon his  score
     7  on  such  examination, be eligible to be placed on the eligible list for
     8  appointment as a full-time police officer  for  the  town  of  Woodstock
     9  police department.
    10    §  2. Steven Kobie Jackson shall otherwise be subject to the merit and
    11  fitness provisions of the civil  service  law  applicable  to  full-time
    12  police officers.
    13    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
