MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
May 8, 2013 as Police Memorial Day in the State of
New York
WHEREAS, Police Memorial Day is a day of mourning for those police
officers who have given their lives in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, This is a day to recognize the sacrifices and contributions
made each day by police officers to protect our society and well-being;
and
WHEREAS, In 2012, eight police officers died in New York State; and
WHEREAS, In commemorating May 8, 2013 as Police Memorial Day in New
York State, this Legislative Body honors and remembers those who have
made the supreme sacrifice in the performance of their duty and offers
comfort to the surviving family members and fellow officers and
recognizes the dedicated performance of duty by all police officers in
New York State which permits us to live and work in freedom and safety;
and
WHEREAS, As a lasting symbol of gratitude and appreciation of the
people of New York State, in 1989, this Legislative Body authorized
construction of a Police Memorial at the State Capitol honoring all
police officers in New York State who have given their lives in the line
of duty; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 8, 2013 as Police
Memorial Day in the State of New York, fully confident that such
procedure mirrors our shared commitment to preserve, enhance and to
effect the essence of freedom which is our American heritage; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor; and to
appropriate officers and members of the police community and to the
loving survivors of the courageous officers who died in New York State
in 2012.
