TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the energy law, in relation to establishing a one
hundred percent clean renewable energy system for electricity by two
thousand thirty
 
PURPOSE:
Establish a goal for New York State to achieve 100% clean renewable
energy for electricity by 2030.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Legislative intent. Legislative intent. New York state has a
goal to transition away from fossil fuels to clean renewable energy.
Since New York state is facing a climate emergency, it shall set a goal
of achieving one hundred percent clean renewable energy for electricity
by two thousand thirty for the purpose of creating jobs, promoting
economic growth, improving public health, protecting the environment,
and to avoid climate catastrophe.
Section 2: New York State Energy Plan shall include a goal of 100% clean
renewable energy for electricity by 2030.
Section 3: Effective date.
 
EXISTING LAW:
This is new law.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
New York State faces a climate emergency. New York already has a policy
to transition away from fossil fuels to clean renewable energy. This
bill would set a state goal for the electrical grid to reach 100% clean
renewable energy by 2030 by using solar, wind and other forms of clean
renewable energy.
