NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY
MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION
submitted in accordance with Assembly Rule III, Sec 1(f)

BILL NUMBER: A7888B

SPONSOR: Byrne
TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Putnam County Workers Memorial Bridge"   PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation would rename the Prospect Hill Road Bridge in the Town of Southeast, as the "Putnam County Workers Memorial Bridge" to honor the men and women who work in Putnam County in the State of New York.   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 designates the Prospect Hill Road Bridge located in the town of Southeast, Putnam County that crosses the Harlem Line tracks and parts of the MTA Metro-North Railroad's Brewster Yard as the "Putnam County Workers Memorial Bridge". Section 2 states that this act shall take effect immediately.   JUSTIFICATION: The men and women within Putnam County work tirelessly to provide a livelihood for their families and to contribute to their community. These resolute citizens characterize a county that works together to support and maintain the area that they call home. Renaming the Prospect Hill Road Bridge the "Putnam County Workers Memorial Bridge" serves to honor these everyday men and women whose labor has had such an indelible impact on our community. The Prospect Hill Road Bridge is the ideal location to honor Putnam County workers for several reasons. The bridge, which is owned by the MTA, provides residents in the Town of Southeast and Village of Brewster with direct access to the Metro North Southeast station, while also easing traffic in the area. Furthermore, the bridge was rebuilt in 2018. It serves as a perfect example of the need to focus on improving our state's infrastructure, while also highlighting the importance of the workers we depend on to do the job.   PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New Bill   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS: Minimal   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
