        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  executive law, in relation to the fees notaries
          public shall be entitled to
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 136 of the executive law, as amended by chapter 143
     2  of the laws of 1991, is amended to read as follows:
     3    § 136. Notarial  fees.  1.  A  notary public shall be entitled to [the
     4  following fees]:
     5    [1. For administering an oath or affirmation, and certifying the  same
     6  when  required,  except  where another fee is specifically prescribed by
     7  statute, two dollars.
     8    2. For taking and certifying the acknowledgment or proof of  execution
     9  of  a  written instrument, by one person, two dollars, and by each addi-
    10  tional person, two dollars,  for  swearing  each  witness  thereto,  two
    11  dollars.]
    12    (a)  charge a fee for administering an oath or affirmation, and certi-
    13  fying the same when required; and
    14    (b) charge a fee for taking and certifying the acknowledgment or proof
    15  of execution of a written instrument.
    16    2. Every notary public shall post publicly and conspicuously at  their
    17  place  of  business a schedule of such fees so that it can be easily and
    18  readily seen and read by the public.
    19    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
