TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to establishing
a no fare program for transportation on the Long Island Rail Road for
duly enrolled members of the auxiliary police for the county of Nassau
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To amend the public authorities law for transportation on the Long
Island Rail Road for duly enrolled members of the auxiliary police for
the county of Nassau.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
To allow duly enrolled members of the auxiliary police of the city of
New York, the county of Nassau, Nassau county villages and cities, the
county of Suffolk, or Suffolk county villages to ride the Lohg Island
Rail Road for free.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
By passing this law protection and safety of commuters on the Long
Island Rail Road would be increased. Additionally, men and women who
serve the auxiliary police of these areas should not have to incur the
added cost of paying for the Long Island Rail Road for their commute.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have
become a law.

AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to establishing
a no fare program for transportation on the Long Island Rail Road for
duly enrolled members of the auxiliary police for the county of Nassau
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 1266 of the public authorities law is amended by
2 adding a new subdivision 14-a to read as follows:
3 14-a. Notwithstanding any other provision of law or the terms of any
4 contract, the authority, in consultation with the Long Island Rail Road,
5 shall establish and implement a no fare program for transportation on
6 the Long Island Rail Road for duly enrolled members of the auxiliary
7 police of the county of Nassau and Nassau county villages and cities.
8 In establishing such program, which has as its goal increased protection
9 and improved safety for its commuters, the authority and the Long Island
10 Rail Road shall, among other things, consider: (a) requiring such
11 members who ride without cost to register with the Long Island Rail Road
12 as a condition of riding without cost; (b) requiring such members to
13 indicate during such registration process their regular working hours
14 and the Long Island Rail Road trains that such members expect to ride;
15 and (c) periodically re-registering and re-validating such members. The
16 authority and the Long Island Rail Road shall also have the power to
17 consider other matters necessary to carry out the goals and objectives
18 of this subdivision.
19 § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall
20 have become a law.
