  TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system as the "Putnam Valley First Responders Bridge"   PURPOSE: To honor Putnam Valley First Responders by designating a portion of the state highway as the "Putnam Valley First Responders Bridge".   SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Amends the highway law to designate the bridge across the Taconic state parkway on Pudding Street, in the town of Putnam Valley as the "Putnam Valley First Responders Bridge ". Section 2: Provides that the Commissioner of Transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section 1 of this act. Provided, however, that the designation shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act: Section 3: Effective date.   JUSTIFICATION: Putnam Valley first responders are an integral part of the Putnam Valley community. First responders put their lives on the line daily to serve and protect Putnam Valley. This bill seeks to honor and recognize the service Putnam Valley first responders provide to their community by naming a heavily traversed bridge after them.   LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: New bill.   FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.   EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.

        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
          the state highway  system  as  the  "Putnam  Valley  First  Responders
          Bridge"
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-n to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 344-n. Portion of the state highway system to be designated  as  the
     4  "Putnam  Valley  First Responders Bridge". The bridge across the Taconic
     5  state parkway on Pudding Street, in the town of Putnam Valley, county of
     6  Putnam, shall be designated  and  known  as  the  "Putnam  Valley  First
     7  Responders Bridge".
     8    §  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
     9  lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
    10  as  designated  pursuant  to  section one of this act. However, to avoid
    11  confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,  the  desig-
    12  nation  called  for  pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
    13  ceremonial nature and the official name of  such  bridge  shall  not  be
    14  changed as a result of this act.
    15    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
