TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the state law, in relation to desig-
nating "Here Rests in Honored Glory" the official state hymn of remem-
brance in honor of all American veterans
 
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to designate "Here Rests in Honored Glory"
composed by Dr. Donald Miller as the official state hymn of remembrance
in honor of all American veterans based on the inscription on the Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Adds new § 91 to the State Law to designate "Here Rests in
Honored Glory" as the official state hymn of remembrance.
Section 2: Establishes the effective date.
 
EXISTING LAW:
None
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Designation of "Here Rests in Honored Glory" as the official state hymn
of remembrance for all American veterans will provide recognition and
acknowledgement of the many sacrifices made by veterans in defense of
our State and nation. This song is designated because it specifically
was written in honor of the Unknown Soldier. "Here Rests in Honored
Glory" is based on the inscription on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at
Arlington National Cemetery.
"Here Rests in Honored Glory" was composed by Dr. Donald Miller, Profes-
sor of Music at Onondaga County Community College. He composed the hymn
in 1984 and it has been played at many events honoring the United States
Military and its veterans around the world. It has been played for cere-
monies at Arlington National Cemetery and in Normandy, France in commem-
oration for the anniversary of the D-Day landings.

AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation to designating "Here Rests in
Honored Glory" the official state hymn of remembrance in honor of all
American veterans
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The state law is amended by adding a new section 91 to read
2 as follows:
3 § 91. State hymn of remembrance in honor of all American veterans.
4 "Here Rests in Honored Glory," by Dr. Donald B. Miller shall be the
5 official state hymn of remembrance in honor of all American veterans,
6 based on the inscription on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
7 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
