EXPRESSING sincere gratitude to the Chinese
government for their thoughtful gift of vital
medical equipment to the people of New York City
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body humbly expresses sincere gratitude to
the Chinese government for their thoughtful gift of vital medical
equipment to the people of New York City; and
WHEREAS, The 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic is an ongoing pandemic
of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute
respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); and
WHEREAS, During the height of the battle against the novel
coronavirus, the Chinese government graciously sent 1,000 lifesaving
ventilators to New York City hospitals where thousands of new COVID-19
infections have been confirmed daily; and
WHEREAS, As of Saturday, April 4, 2020, 3,565 New Yorkers lost their
lives to the coronavirus and the state recorded 113,704 confirmed cases;
and
WHEREAS, Thanks to Chinese officials, these much-needed machines
have alleviated a great deal of pressure on New York City's hospitals,
and has helped save the lives of a multitude of people who have suffered
and continue to suffer from this deadly disease; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
countries, such as China, of such noble aims are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
express sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for their thoughtful
gift of vital medical equipment to the people of New York City.
