AN ACT to amend the elder law, in relation to requiring the state office
for the aging to include reports on older adults who are primary care-
givers or guardians of minors and on substance use disorders among
older adults in such office's annual reports to the governor and
legislature
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 3 of section 213 of the elder law is amended by
2 adding two new paragraphs (l) and (m) to read as follows:
3 (l) A report on the number of older adults who are primary caregivers
4 or guardians of minors including prevalence by age range, circumstances
5 that lead to older adults becoming primary caregivers or guardians to
6 minors, an analysis of what services are available through the office
7 and other state agencies to assist these older adult primary caregivers
8 and guardians, and recommendations regarding support for older adults
9 who are primary caregivers or guardians for minor children.
10 (m) A report on substance use disorders among older adults including
11 prevalence of substance use disorders, what programs and services are
12 available from or in conjunction with the office, an analysis of what
13 services are needed to assist older adults dealing with substance use
14 disorders, and recommendations regarding how the office can assist and
15 participate in efforts to assist older adults dealing with substance use
16 disorders.
17 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
