Statement from Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. on the Death of U.S. Senator John McCain

John McCain was the epitome of what it means to be an American citizen. Being an American means both freedom AND responsibility. His military service alone qualified him as a hero. Nearly six years as a POW in North Vietnam only fortified his love of country. His service as a U.S. Senator and a Presidential candidate set a standard that all of us who enter the political arena can only hope to emulate. He always put country ahead of politics. Even when I disagreed with his position, his integrity and "country first" motivation were never in question. His career of service should be celebrated by all. With Harry Truman and Robert Kennedy, he was one of my favorites. I wish to express my condolences to the McCain family.
