Governor signs McDonald’s, Marchione’s Gold Star Parents Legislation

Governor Cuomo recently signed legislation sponsored by myself and Senator Marchione to provide an annual increase in the rate of compensation for Gold Star Parents who have lost a child in the armed services during a time of war. Under current law, Gold Star Parents are paid $500 annually with no provision for an annual increase. This new legislation amends the executive law to allow for an annual increase at a rate equal to the percentage increase of benefits set by the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs.

It is our duty to ensure our veterans and their families receive the benefits they deserve. By signing this critical piece of legislation, Governor Cuomo is once again showing that New York stands with our veterans. I am proud to have sponsored this bill that makes sure the support we give to Gold Star Parents who have lost a child in the line of duty does not fall behind.
