EFD Strengthens Fleet with New Emergency Response Vehicle

Lupardo secures grant to fund its purchase

Endicott, NY – A new vehicle has been added to the Endicott Fire Department’s fleet. Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo joined members of the department Friday to debut the new EMS/Medical Quick Response vehicle which was purchased through funding secured by the Assemblywoman.

"Our firefighters do a tremendous job keeping our community safe. I’m happy to have secured this funding to support them,” said Lupardo. “This vehicle can take on all types of weather, enhancing the protection they provide and keeping them safe.”

Lupardo secured $40,000 through the state’s State and Municipal Facilities (SAM) program for the purchase of the new vehicle. SAM grants can be used by local governments to fund the construction and rehabilitation of public facilities, as well as purchase equipment such, such as vehicles. EFD’s new four-wheel drive SUV will replace a 20-year-old EMS truck, which is dispatched on roughly two thousand calls each year.

“Our fleet goes through a lot of wear and tear,” said Endicott Fire Captain Paul Higgins. “Being on the road year-round, in every kind of weather, really takes its toll. The new vehicle will really help our crew better serve the community. We appreciate Assemblywoman Lupardo’s efforts to secure this funding.”
