McDonough Commemorates Independence Day

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) issues comments on the 4th of July holiday

“Independence Day is our country’s most cherished tradition where we band together under a common theme to embrace American values and appreciate the freedom that our nation offers. During these seemingly divisive times, moments like these are truly special and allow us to reflect upon how truly unique and groundbreaking the American Experiment was when it began on this day 243 years ago.

“Our founding fathers took a brave step into the unknown as they declared their independence from the British Empire but, in doing so, became trailblazers of democracy and ignited the spark of self-determination across the world. Those feelings are reignited for us each Independence Day as we enjoy time with family and friends and appreciate the freedoms that our nation grants each citizen.

“As you are enjoying a festive barbeque or watching the fireworks this week, please take a moment to reach out to a veteran or service member in your life and thank them for their role in protecting our nation and preserving the American dream. As a veteran of the United States Air Force and Coast Guard, I would like to thank all our veterans and active duty members for their service at home and abroad.

“Most importantly, please enjoy this 4th of July holiday responsibly and do your part to keep our community safe. Happy Independence Day!”
