Education Reform Effort Falls Short

A statement by Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square)

“Last year, this house passed legislation to cleanly decouple student performance on statewide assessments from teacher evaluations. The bill we passed today fails to meet that standard. 50 percent of a teacher’s evaluation will still be based on assessments, which, for all intents and purposes, means more the same: more high-stakes tests, more concerned parents, more needlessly stressed kids and more educators teaching to tests written by bureaucrats instead of meeting the individualized needs of their students. I couldn’t support this. We need to do better for our kids,” said Ra.
