DeStefano: Residents Can Participate in Recruitny

This weekend, Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I,Ref-Medford) is announcing that residents can take part in RecruitNY, an initiative aimed at increasing the number of volunteer firefighters. Local fire departments across the state will be holding open houses to educate their community about their work and the benefits of becoming a volunteer firefighter.

Over the years, fire departments have experienced a shortage of volunteer firefighters which has significantly affected fire departments and communities throughout New York State. Since The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) started RecruitNY, over 25,000 volunteer firefighters have been recruited.

“Fire departments are a valuable asset to our communities but they cannot operate without dedicated volunteers. My experience in the Medford Fire Department has been truly rewarding and I have made lifelong friendships since joining in 1980,” said DeStefano. “Everyone can contact their local fire department and learn more about how you can become a volunteer. This is your chance to make a difference in your community.”
