Today, the State Assembly passed a bill that would allow the Town of Brookhaven to lease municipality-owned parklands to the Patchogue-Medford Library for the purpose of establishing a local library branch. Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I,Ref-Medford) introduced A.3475 to benefit the Patchogue-Medford Library, which has had an influx of individuals using their facility.

“It is an honor to pass this piece of legislation that will benefit the highly renowned Patchogue-Medford Library. The Patchogue-Medford Library has been serving the surrounding community for well over 100 years and serves as the central library for the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. It offers a variety of beneficial programs, events and opportunities for community members,” said DeStefano. “By allowing them access to park land and recreational facilities, they will continue to provide quality library service throughout the community.”

“The Medford community has worked with the library, on and off, since 1966 to create more localized services,” said President of the Board of Trustees of the Patchogue-Medford Library Harold Trabold. “And now we are one step closer to making enhanced library services a reality, right in their neighborhood. This means increased access to information and materials, computers and free WIFI, career resources and ESL classes, homework help and children's events, community rooms and a welcoming space for all.”
