Assemblyman Smith’s Statement On The Appointment Of Barbara Underwood As Attorney General

Assemblyman Smith issued the following statement following the appointment of Solicitor General Barbara Underwood’s appointment last week as Attorney General following the resignation of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman:

“Last week the New York State Assembly and Senate met in an historic joint session to fill the vacancy left by disgraced Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. I was happy to cast my vote with confidence for Barbara Underwood, who was elected overwhelmingly as New York’s first female Attorney General. Attorney General Underwood has a distinguished career in law enforcement working under both Republican and Democrat Governors and Attorneys General. During the interviews she stated that she will not seek the nomination to run for the position this fall which will allow the people of the State of New York to rightfully elect our next Attorney General on Election Day this November. I am confident that the office of Attorney General is in good hands with Barbara Underwood at the helm.”
