Smith Secures Funding For Sachem Library’s Discovery Grove

On July 27th, Assemblyman Doug Smith attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Sachem Public Library for the grand opening of the “Discovery Grove Learning Center.”

“I was thrilled to be able to attend the ceremony and see the excitement surrounding the learning center,” Smith said. “I’m a proponent of discovery learning through play, especially in STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics—fields. Discovery Grove here at Sachem provides children with a unique outdoor learning experience that will create a fun and adventurous experience and at the same time they are expanding their minds to create a new world of possibilities. I was happy to secure $13,000 to help fund this important project,” Smith concluded.

Assemblyman Smith’s district received an additional $130,000 for interior renovations at the Middle Country Public Library, and $70,000 for a new boiler and energy efficient lighting upgrades at the Sachem Public Library. This funding is part of a capital appropriation in the state budget along with 228 other construction projects for public libraries and library systems throughout the state.
