Statement by Assemblyman Charles D. Fall on the Ongoing Controversy Sparked By an Eruv in Westerleigh

“I’ve been closely following the ongoing controversy regarding the placement of an eruv in the Westerleigh community. I am also aware of the escalating tensions that are occurring within the neighborhoods directly affected.

We must respect the guidelines in place when introducing eruv’s, for the common good and public safety within our community. However, we cannot condone some of the comments that have spurred up, potentially resulting in conflicts of hate within our neighborhoods.

Throughout the last few years, our nation has experienced a spike in hate crimes relating to national origin, religious belief and race. I am committed to meet with community and faith leaders and the residents of the community to find resolution to this ongoing dilemma.

We must take a proactive and inclusive approach to this matter, not a reactive and divisive approach,” said Fall.
