Fitzpatrick To Donors And Partners: Thank You For A Successful Blood Drive

Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R,C,I-Smithtown) recently hosted a blood drive on July 20 at the Hauppauge Fire Department. A total of 29 pints of blood were donated, which will help to save 87 lives. The drive was in partnership with New York Blood Center. Additionally, McDonald’s participated by donating free meal coupons to donors. “Thank you to every person who took time out of their busy days to join me in giving the life-saving gift of a blood donation. Working with New York Blood Services and the Hauppauge Fire Department is always a pleasure in helping organize this blood drive. I am thankful for their partnership,” said Fitzpatrick. “Every donation has the potential to help save the lives of three people, and right here we’ve been able to help 87 individuals in our community and beyond.”

Roughly 2,000 blood donations are needed each day in the New York-New Jersey region. Especially helpful are Type O Negative blood donations, which are universally accepted by all patients regardless of blood type. However, all blood types are needed. Each blood donation can save up to three lives. Donations are used to help victims of life-threatening accidents and disease, help mothers and newborn babies and many others in need of the help a blood donation can provide.
