Brabenec Disappointed in Gov.’s Repeated Veto of Court Officers Bill

Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deerpark) is criticizing Gov. Cuomo for vetoing legislation for the fifth year in a row, that would have expanded retirement and disability benefits to the state’s court officers. The governor cited fiscal concerns that were not accounted for in the state’s financial plan as reason for last week’s veto.

“It’s disappointing to see Gov. Cuomo veto legislation, passed almost unanimously by the Assembly, that would bring court officers’ benefits on par with many other unions,” Brabenec continued. “This is about priorities and for the governor to cry fiscal concerns when we have one of the largest state budgets in the country is just mind-blowing.

“As the Ranking Minority member of the Assembly Labor Committee, I will always stand for our uniformed officers, court officers and local unions whose members work long hours, many times in dangerous conditions, for the betterment of society and our community,” Brabenec concluded. “They deserve our utmost respect, and I will fight to see that we continue to advance legislation to help them, despite Gov. Cuomo’s priorities.”
