Gunther: Legislation will allow BOCES and Libraries to Contract for High-Speed Internet, Telecommunications Services
June 14, 2012
Albany, NY – Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D,C – Forestburgh) announced Assembly passage of legislation she sponsored that will allow BOCES in New York State to enter into contracts with public libraries or library systems to provide telecommunication services (A.464B).
“Many public libraries are struggling to make the investment in telecommunications networks, particularly high speed Internet services,” said Assemblywoman Gunther. “At the same time, BOCES has invested significant money in developing these networks. This legislation is a win-win – libraries would have access to the service, and BOCES would be able to share the cost of maintenance.”
