Legislation Will Create Gift Cards for Hunting and Fishing Licenses

Albany, NY – If signed into law, New Yorkers will soon be able to give gift cards for hunting and fishing licenses, according to the bill’s sponsor, Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D,I,WF-Forestburgh). The legislation (A.1627/S.6574), passed in both the Assembly and Senate, directs the Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Conservation to develop rules and regulations to create the gift cards.

“You can already purchase gift cards for camping permits and Empire Passports. It makes sense to include hunting and fishing licenses so New Yorkers can give the gift of even more outdoor activities in the state,” said Assemblywoman Gunther.

Empire Passports are used for entrance into New York State Parks. Gift cards for camping permits can be used to pay for anything from greens fees at state golf courses to firewood and boat rentals at state campgrounds. More information on gift cards already available can be found at: http://nysparks.com/admission/gift-card.aspx.

“The Catskills are rich in outdoor recreational activities,” Assemblywoman Gunther continued. “I hope the creation of these gift cards will encourage more people to take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities out there.”
