NYS Assembly Passes Gunther Legislation to Create Child Care Task Force

Albany, NY – Legislation to create a child care regulatory review task force unanimously passed the New York State Assembly today (A.7135). The bill, sponsored by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D,I,WF-Forestburgh), is part of the Assembly’s Families First agenda.

“Child care providers need not be drowned in contradictory or duplicative regulations from multiple state agencies to ensure our children are in a safe, clean, and appropriate child care setting,” said Assemblywoman Gunther.

Providers maintain compliance with various state and federal regulations. Often, this means submitting duplicative or nearly identical paperwork to multiple agencies. In other cases, regulations from one agency to the next are in polar opposition. The legislation would create a task force of relevant state agencies to identify ways to streamline and reduce existing requirements, reducing the financial and administrative burden on already-stretched providers.

“It’s a bureaucratic nightmare for providers whose focus should be on the children in their care, not juggling overly-burdensome regulations.”
