Local Governments Get More Than $4.2 Million for Water, Sewer Projects
Funding part of state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act
Monticello, NY – Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D,I,WF- Forestburgh) today announced three municipalities in the 100th Assembly District will receive a total of more than $4.2 million in funding for water infrastructure projects.
“Clean water is absolutely critical to a healthy community,” said Assemblywoman Gunther. “This funding will enable municipalities to update infrastructure and not pass the burden of doing so on to taxpayers.”
The City of Middletown will be receiving $975,345; The Town of Fallsburg will be receiving $2,146,743; and the Town of Liberty will be receiving $2,112,388.
The money represents an additional investment in the State’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act, funded with Assemblywoman Gunther’s support in the State’s 2016-2017 Budget. This additional funding allowed the New York State Environmental Facilities Corp. to broaden eligibility within the grant program.
Town of Fallsburg Supervisor Steven Vegliante said, “Every day, we work to improve the quality of life in the Town of Fallsburg, and this funding goes a long way to helping us achieve that goal. Water and sewer infrastructure that is updated and in full working order protects residents’ health, pocketbooks, and the environment. I’m grateful to Assemblywoman Gunther for her advocacy and understanding that every dollar she brings back from Albany is another dollar we can save taxpayers.”
“My administration has been working hard to maintain and upgrade our municipal infrastructure to accommodate the robust economic development we’ve been bringing to the City,” said Mayor Joe DeStefano. “This funding is an important and welcome. We’re fortunate to have Aileen Gunther working hard to make these projects a reality without adversely impacting the City’s or taxpayer’s finances.”
Assemblywoman Gunther said, “Everybody in state government, from Governor Cuomo to my colleagues in the Assembly and Senate, knew how important it was to provide this funding. On behalf of my district, I’m thankful to the Governor and my colleagues for their support.”
