Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R,C- Chautauqua) introduces his smart solution to extend a bigger hand up for New York’s young people seeking employment, rather than a bigger handout to welfare recipients. The proposal would have eliminated the proposed 10% increase in welfare benefits, and used the savings to fund an incentive for employers to hire unemployed young people. This amendment could have saved local governments an estimated $24 million while also providing much-needed employment assistance to young people.
